The Intune service release 2604 brings several interesting updates. Android XR devices can now be managed through Intune, the TeamViewer integration has been fully replaced with a new connector, and compliance reporting has been thoroughly revised. What does this mean for IT administrators?
In early April 2026, Microsoft rolled out Intune service release 2604 with several updates that are directly relevant to IT administrators. The three most notable changes: support for Android XR devices, a replacement TeamViewer integration, and revised compliance reporting with clearer documentation.
With service release 2604, Android XR devices can now be enrolled via the Android Enterprise dedicated and fully managed enrollment modes. XR stands for Extended Reality and covers both virtual reality and augmented reality. Devices such as the Samsung XR headset, built on Google's Android XR platform, can now be managed via the same Intune policies as existing Android Enterprise devices.
The existing TeamViewer connector in Intune has been fully replaced with a new version. The old connector continues to work for another twelve months, after which organisations using TeamViewer for remote support must have migrated to the new one.
The new connector offers easier onboarding, better integrated authentication and more stable remote sessions. For IT administrators already using TeamViewer, the transition is a requirement, not a choice.
Alongside the visible changes, the documentation around compliance policy reporting has been completely revised. The reporting logic has not changed, but the way results are presented and interpreted is now more clearly described.
In practice this means IT administrators can now better understand why a device is classified as compliant or non-compliant, how check-in timing influences reporting, and how users and devices are linked in the report. For organisations that need to deliver compliance reports to management or audit, this is a welcome clarification.
Three things are worth picking up this month. First, if you use TeamViewer, plan the migration to the new connector within the coming year. Second, if compliance reporting is part of your reporting cycle, review the new documentation. Third, if XR devices are used anywhere in your product development or training, central management is now possible.
