On 1 May 2026, Microsoft introduces Microsoft 365 E7, the so-called Frontier Suite. The new subscription bundles everything E5 offers with Copilot, Agent 365, the full Entra Suite and advanced Defender and Purview security. Price: $99 per user per month. But what exactly do you get, who is it for, and when is E7 the right choice?
On 9 March 2026, Microsoft announced the Frontier Suite: a new top-tier subscription that for the first time combines the power of Microsoft 365 E5, Copilot and Agent 365 into a single SKU. From 1 May 2026, Microsoft 365 E7 will be available through the Cloud Solution Provider channel and directly from Microsoft.
The name Frontier is no coincidence. Microsoft positions this subscription as the starting point for organisations that want to work with AI agents, autonomous workflows and the next generation of productivity. Where E5 was long the premium offering, E7 becomes the new ceiling.
E7 builds fully on E5 and adds three major components. First, Microsoft 365 Copilot, the AI assistant that integrates with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams and all other M365 applications. Second, Agent 365, the platform with which organisations can build and deploy autonomous AI agents for automated workflows. Third, the Microsoft Entra Suite, providing advanced identity and access management including verified ID, private access and internet access.
E7 also includes the most comprehensive versions of Microsoft Defender, Microsoft Intune and Microsoft Purview. The premise is that security, compliance, identity and AI are in one package and work seamlessly together. Separate licences for Copilot or Entra are no longer needed with E7.
Alongside the E7 announcement, Microsoft launched the third major wave of Copilot improvements, internally called Wave 3. Central to this is Work IQ, an intelligence layer that recognises patterns in how an organisation works and proactively makes suggestions, picks up tasks and optimises workflows based on that.
In practice, Copilot in Word not only helps with writing but also understands which documents are relevant, who the stakeholders are and what the previous communication on the topic was. In Outlook, emails are not only summarised but also prioritised based on your work pattern. In Teams, agents can summarise meetings, assign action points and track progress without any employee needing to do anything.
E7 is not the right choice for every organisation. For smaller businesses wanting Copilot, a Microsoft 365 Business Premium subscription with a Copilot add-on is often more affordable and sufficient. E7 is primarily interesting for mid-sized and large organisations already on E5 or moving there, and who want to make serious use of AI agents and advanced security.
The business case is relatively straightforward. Those already on E5 plus a Copilot licence plus Entra Suite are often already paying more than the $99 per user of E7. The bundling delivers a direct cost saving in those cases, aside from the operational benefits of a single integrated platform.
E7 becomes available from 1 May 2026 via CSP for monthly, annual and three-year subscriptions. Organisations already on E5 can upgrade without data loss. Interested in whether E7 is the right step for your organisation? Zarioh helps you make the right choice and implement it smoothly. Get in touch.
